			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A while a ago I saw a post on twitter which I found fascinating. Okay that happens regularly, I have to admit. Some of them get saved somewhere in the cloud and get forgotten but others stay remembered. The tweet told me <a href="http://toroid.org/ams/git-website-howto" title="how to use git to manage a website">how to use git to manage a website</a> which seemed to be a pretty nice idea. As <a href="http://blog.garlicsim.org/post/9583964892/a-git-users-first-and-hopefully-last-foray-into">stated today by garlicsim</a> (and yes I found it on <A href="https://twitter.com/#!/FarMcKon/status/108530914618900480">a twitter post by FarMcKon</a>) git is more yummy than subversion. Especially if you can push your pages to another three where you don&#8217;t have to block any .svn directory&#8230; But there&#8217;s been <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/Ubuntuka/status/108161370675093504">another tweet by Ubuntuka</a> which wanted me to combine them. And so this is my story on how to get it working.<br />
<span id="more-140"></span><br />
<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/Ubuntuka/status/108161370675093504">The tweet by Ubuntuka</a> brought me to <a href="http://jekyllrb.com/">jekyll</a> which gave me a nice idea. I know there a lot of them in my closet but I thought I could realize this one pretty easy. Wiki syntax makes it easy to write some pages and the idea of rendering a markdown page on github is a nice idea but I had some problems in using the correct syntax. Using <a href="http://jekyllrb.com/">jekyll</a> to test the pages locally sounded like a good idea. So I started installing following <a href="https://github.com/mojombo/jekyll/wiki/install">the instructions</a><br />
Those instructions where actually easier than expected. <code><br />
sudo apt-get install rubygems1.8<br />
sudo gem install jekyll rdiscount<br />
</code><br />
And after the installation I could already start testing jekyll. Even without creating the initial files, this command started my local webserver: <code><br />
/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/jekyll --server<br />
</code><br />
As far as I see, it&#8217;s all I need. But actually I didn&#8217;t used the recommendation about <a href="http://toroid.org/ams/git-website-howto" title="how to use git to manage a website">how to use git to manage a website</a> so I will have to take a look how to push it to <a href="http://www.tisnix.be">my website</a>. But before pushing it, I will have to import the current stuff and probably it will need a little cleanup. It&#8217;s been there for a while so probably some things are changed in the meantime.<br />
My <a href="http://www.dommel.be">current provider</a> does only provide ftp and it would really be cool to use location which I can access more easy. Maybe I can just move the site to <a href="http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSLU2">my linksys NSLU2</a> which runs <a href="http://www.openwrt.org">openwrt</a>.<br />
So yes, there will be next part. And I hope it will be there soon.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s really been a while since my last post but I decided to get this moving again. I regularly need to remember something and this blog still is a good place to write stuff down.<br />
<span id="more-129"></span><br />
On this post I want to tell you how I make stuff happening while logging in. I just like it if I don&#8217;t have to start the cool stuff manually so scripting was the solution. Since I need the same programs on almost all my systems, synchronisation was needed. I could have putted the code in a repository but I decided to use the <a title="ubuntu one" href="http://one.ubuntu.com">ubuntu-one</a> service because it is already there.<br />
I created a little script like this and added it to my $HOME/Ubuntu One/script folder. I made it executable and hoped for the best.<br />
<code><br />
#!/bin/bash<br />
# starting hamster-indicator<br />
if test $(hostname) = 'wimsbuntu'<br />
then<br />
$HOME/src/hamster-indicator/hamster-appindicator/hamster-indicator \<br />
		2&gt;&amp;1 &gt;/dev/null &amp;<br />
fi</p>
<p># starting empathy-twitter-startus<br />
STATUSDIR="$HOME/src/empathy-twitter-status"<br />
test -d "$STATUSDIR" &amp;# starting tomboy<br />
/usr/bin/tomboy &gt;/dev/null 2&gt;&amp;1 &amp;</p>
<p># starting desktopcouch<br />
/usr/lib/desktopcouch/desktopcouch-get-port &gt;/dev/null 2&gt;&amp;1 &amp;<br />
</code><br />
Unfortunately while syncing correctly the mode-bits where not set correctly so a little workaround was needed. My solution was pretty easy: I created a script in my $HOME/bin which starts the startup-script. It goes a little like this:<br />
<!-- code --><br />
<code><br />
/bin/bash "$HOME/Ubuntu One/scripts/startup"<br />
</code><br />
Making the script executable and adding the script to the startup manager finishes the job.<br />
The only thing I&#8217;m missing is halting some programs on logout. I&#8217;ve been googling around but didn&#8217;t found a good answer. Anyone a suggestion?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A long time ago, I replaced the original linux on my eee with easypeasy. Ubuntu recently released a new version with an Ubuntu Netbook Remix included so I decided to test it on my EEE 900. Maybe my notes can be helpful for some other people out there.<br />
<span id="more-123"></span><br />
I&#8217;ve tried to download the image using the normal way but it got to slow. To bring something to the comunity, I used bittorrent to download the image. It went surprisingly fast. Installing was a lot harder.<br />
Apparently I had to `dd` the image to a USB stick to have an installable image. My first try went wrong because of a broken dump of the image. I tried another one using an SD card and it couldn&#8217;t even install. I really had to use my usb SD card reader to perform a working installation. But finally it went correctly so after waiting half an hour my eee could be booted with the new ubuntu operating system. I liked it.<br />
After logging in the desktop didn&#8217;t looked correct. I reused my home directory so there were some setting which were incorrect. I removed .gconf, .gconfd and .gnome2* and I got a new one. I realise this is not really a good fix, but it worked&#8230; and I lost my wireless network keys.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s been a while since my last post but I have something which could be useful for the community so let me share it. It&#8217;s related to <a href="http://twitter.com/wimpunk/statuses/1424842387">a post on twitter</a>.<br />
<span id="more-119"></span><br />
I had a vmware configuration on which I tried some experiment with openSuSE 10.0 and since I didn&#8217;t needed it anymore, I wanted to reuse it. After downloading the ISO images from novell, I mounted the iso image and started installing. Unfortunately it didn&#8217;t worked as I expected: the installer couldn&#8217;t find any harddisk. I tried a few different solutions but none brought me what I was hoping for.<br />
Finally I found some hints on <a href="http://ramblings.narrabilis.com/wp/vmware-linux-virtual-machine-hard-disk-not-found/">the sysadmin rablings</a>.<br />
I created a new vmware configuration with the suggested SCSI controller. Since the configuration file of vmware (*.vmx) is just a text file, I opened it with notepad++ and compared it with the configuration file of the currently used vmware. This is the part which had my attention:<br />
<code><br />
scsi0.present = "TRUE"<br />
scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"<br />
</code><br />
Both configuration where using lsilogic scsi controller so I had to find out which steps I had to take to use the other driver. With a little creativity I had my new configuration five minutes later. I searched for the virtualDev line in the new configuration file but I didn&#8217;t found any. So I decided to remove the virtualDev line from original configuration. After starting up, I got a warning about the changed hardware and the SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 installer found my harddisk. I was happy. <img src='http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /><br />
Just for the record: I was using a registred vmware workstation 5.5.9. Maybe SLES 11 works correctly with vmware 6 but I didn&#8217;t tried it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I <a href="http://wimpunk.wordpress.com/2008/11/05/kiss">previously</a> tried to create an easy solution to detect if my computer was up and running but I got stuck with some interdomain related stuff. On my second try i was playing with iframes.<br />
<span id="more-109"></span><br />
I added a hidden Iframe to the page which i tested using this code:<br />
<code><br />
function testFrame() {<br />
	if (document.getElementById("check").contentDocument.getElementById("txtOnline") == null) {<br />
		if (cnt++ &lt; 5) setTimeout(testFrame(),5000);<br />
	} else {<br />
		content = document.getElementById("check").contentDocument.getElementById("txtOnline").textContent;<br />
		document.getElementById("txtResult").textContent = content;<br />
		document.getElementById("txtResult").style.backgroundColor = "green";<br />
       }<br />
}<br />
</code><br />
It didn&#8217;t worked. Again I got troubles with interdomain stuff.</p>
<p>I found the real solution at code.google.com. I got what I want by using jquery. So this is my current solution. On the html page we at a little javascript:<br />
<code><br />
// Load jQuery<br />
google.load("jquery", "1");<br />
// on page load complete, fire off a jQuery json-p query<br />
// against Google web search<br />
google.setOnLoadCallback(function() {<br />
                $.getJSON("http://java3.tisnix.be:8888/jason.php?callback=?",<br />
                        function (data) {<br />
                        document.getElementById("txtResult").innerHTML = data.responseData;<br />
                        document.getElementById("txtResult").style.backgroundColor = "green";<br />
                        });<br />
                });<br />
</code><br />
jason.php just returns a little json structure:<br />
<code><br />
&lt;?php<br />
// Not sure of deze nodig is<br />
header ("Content-Type: application/json; charset=utf-8");<br />
// een heel eenvoudige response<br />
$str = "";<br />
$str .= $_GET['callback'];<br />
$str .= "(";<br />
$str .= "{responseData:'
<p>Volgens de check van jouw browser staat mijn PC nu <b>WEL</b> online.
<p>'}";<br />
$str .= ")";<br />
echo $str;<br />
?&gt;<br />
</code><br />
On our page we have a div with id txtResult which get replaced by the responseData when the page is loaded.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This post has nothing to do with any musician like kiss or ac/dc which should be popular during this crisis. It&#8217;s just all about keeping it simple.</p>
<p><span id="more-105"></span></p>
<p>I needed some code to make it possible to check if my computer at home was online. It&#8217;s all related to the stuff you can find in <a href="http://users.scarlet.be/tisnix/java3">my java3 documentation</a>. My original plan was using a little bit of AJAX which could check if my server was reachable and update a part of the page if so.</p>
<p>After some googling and putting stuff together I got a javascript like this</p>
<p><code><br />
var xmlHttp;</p>
<p>function showOnline()<br />
{<br />
        xmlHttp=GetXmlHttpObject();<br />
        if (xmlHttp==null)<br />
        {<br />
                alert ("Your browser does not support AJAX!");<br />
                return;<br />
        }<br />
        url='http://home.tisnix.be/online.txt?';<br />
        url=url+"sid="+Math.random();</p>
<p>        xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged;<br />
        xmlHttp.open('GET',url , true);<br />
        xmlHttp.send(null);</p>
<p>}<br />
function stateChanged()<br />
{<br />
        if (xmlHttp.readyState==4) {<br />
                document.getElementById("txtResult").textContent=xmlHttp.responseText;<br />
        }<br />
}<br />
</code></p>
<p>The code for GetXmlHttpObject has been copied from w3schools and looks like this</p>
<p><code><br />
function GetXmlHttpObject()<br />
{<br />
        var xmlHttp=null;<br />
        try<br />
        {<br />
                // Firefox, Opera 8.0+, Safari<br />
                xmlHttp=new XMLHttpRequest();<br />
        }<br />
        catch (e)<br />
        {<br />
                // Internet Explorer<br />
                try<br />
                {<br />
                        xmlHttp=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP");<br />
                }<br />
                catch (e)<br />
                {<br />
                        xmlHttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");<br />
                }<br />
        }<br />
        return xmlHttp;<br />
}<br />
</code></p>
<p>The code has been working but it got a little bug. I first tried it on my computer where it was working as it should. But porting it to the scarlet pages, my javascript debugger showed me some errors. With GetXmlHttpObject you can&#8217;t open pages on another domain. So I got stuck.</p>
<p>But there was a solution. The solution wasn&#8217;t vodka but putting the javascript on my local computer. So just adding this little script to my computer did the trick:<br />
<code><br />
function showOnline(str) {<br />
        document.getElementById("txtOnline").textContent=str;<br />
}<br />
</code></p>
<p>So the javascript page gets loaded from my computer. If it&#8217;s not online, you don&#8217;t get any annoying error unless you&#8217;re doing some debugging. If it gets loaded, the function replaces the element with id txtOnline with the argument you gave it. So I really had to keep it simple.</p>
<p><B>UPDATE:</b> my test doesn&#8217;t work. I really have to do it asynchronously or the page hangs</p>
<p><b>UPDATE2:</b> a working solution can be found in <a href="http://wimpunk.wordpress.com/2008/11/09/kiss-part-2">kiss part 2</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been <a href="http://tisnix.wikispaces.com/TisnixMail">mentioning my plans</a> to change my email routing on my wiki but there was one missing feature on exim. I&#8217;m currently using the so called dotforward stuff from courier. Actually, the forward rules I&#8217;m using are pretty simple. I have a .forward to send the mail to another email adres and I have a .forward-default to prevent mails with a dash send out. Searching for the same system on the internet didn&#8217;t gave me any satisfying solutions. But reading <a href="http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/index.html">the manual of exim</a> gave me a ratter easy solution: the use of exim filters. Especially <a href="http://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/filter.html">the filter part</a> was pretty useful. This is my result:<br />
<code># Exim filter<br />
logfile $home/filter.log<br />
if $local_part_suffix is ""<br />
then<br />
deliver myotheremail@someprovider.com.spam<br />
save Maildir/<br />
else<br />
save Maildir/.test/<br />
finish<br />
endif</code><br />
So everything without a local part gets sended to myotherprovider, exactly the way I wanted.</p>
